FAIRFIELD, Conn. (February 18, 2008) - Sacred Heart junior Stephanie Ryan (Coram, NY) was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced Monday afternoon by the league office. It is Ryan's first career NEC weekly honor.

With her team battling for the Northeast Conference's regular season championship, Ryan averaged a double-double to help keep the Pioneers within a half-game of first-place Quinnipiac. The SHU junior tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds per game over two victories. Ryan began the week with her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and pulling in a career-high 15 caroms against Monmouth. She followed that up with another 15-point effort in only 24 minutes of playing time during a rout of Saint Francis (PA). Ryan was effective in shooting the ball too this past week, connecting at a 57-percent rate (12-21) from the field.

Ryan and the Pioneers are back in action tonight as they travel to Wagner College for a 7:00 pm tip.
