FAIRFIELD, Conn. (February 7, 2008) - Sacred Heart junior Stephanie Ryan (Coram, NY) was named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team announced on Thursday. Ryan was named to the District 1 Second Team.

Ryan is in her first season playing for the Pioneers after transferring from Fairfield University last season. The junior guard sports a 3.54 grade point average as a Business Management / Marketing major at SHU.

Through 23 games this season, Ryan is third on the team averaging 11.7 points per game. She is the team leader and fifth in the Northeast Conference in rebounding pulling down 8.0 per game. She leads the conference with 143 defensive rebounds on the year. Defensively, Ryan leads the team with 39 steals. She is also the team leader in free throw shooting, hitting 82.5% (47-57) at the line on the year.

Ryan is joined on the District 1 Second Team by a pair of fellow NEC players in Quinnipiac junior Erin Kerner and Long Island sophomore Valerie Nainima. The NEC was also represented on the District 2 Second Team by St. Francis (PA) senior Emily Bollinger and Fairleigh Dickinson senior Shanay Freeman.
