Katherine Haines Puts Up 23 Points, as SHU Falls To RMU 66-56

The Sacred Heart women's basketball team took the road to take on defending NEC Champions Robert Morris 66-56. Katherine Haines had a career setting night as she posted her eighth double-double of the season. Haines snagged a new career high 18 rebounds, and set a new career high 23 points. The Pioneers finish their regular season Monday on ESPN3 as they take on Saint Francis U.

 

The Colonials were first get on the board as they picked up a layup, but the Pioneers were quick to respond, as Erin Storck layed a basket in on the next possession. The Colonials went on a tear, as they rattled off 14 points, jumping to a commanding lead 16-2 with 4:02 remaining. The Pioneers picked up a triple from Kelcey Castro, but the Colonials were too much as they finished the first quarter up 22-7.

 

Haines put the team on her back to start the second, scoring the Pioneers first six points, and moving the score to 22-13 in favor of RMU. Following a Storck layup the Pioneers were within 10 with 1:47 remaining in the first half. Robert Morris would go into halftime with a 36-24 advantage.

 

After back-to-back layups from Haines, the Pioneers were back in this game, as the score stood 40-36 with 3:17 left in the third. Another Haines bucket kept the Pioneers in the game as they were only down 42-40 now at the 2:00 mark in the 3rd.  Going into the final quarter the Pioneers found themselves in a dog fight 44-42.

 

After nearly four minutes of scoreless play, Williams hit a jumper to keep the score 46-44 in favor of RMU. The Colonials made a trio of baskets, moving the score to 52-44, as the Pioneers made a last effort to come back. A Shelby Hickey three would put the Pioneers back on track, but the 10 point lead would be too much for SHU, as they fell 66-56

 
 
 

Noteworthy-

  • Haines finished the day with a new career high in rebounds, and points. She grabbed 18 boards, and put up 23 points. Haines finished the night 6-14 from the floor, and shot 11-13 at the charity stripe
  • Haines has been on a tear this season, and posted her eighth double-double of the season
  • Two Pioneers finished in double-digits as Adaysha Williams, also put up 11 points

  • The Pioneers outrebounded the Colonials 40-38. Haines led the team in boards with 18
  • The Colonials finished the night shooting 41.0% from the floor, and held the Pioneers to 31.6%
