Pioneers Take on Saint Peter's Saturday

Setting the Scene... After picking up their second Big East overtime loss of the season to Villanova (62-59) Wednesday night at home in the William H. Pitt, the Sacred Heart women's basketball team looks to rebound on the road Saturday against Saint Peter's. The Peahens, after suffering losses to Hampton (64-37), Brown (64-52) and Navy (70-51), are still in the hunt for their first win of the 2013-14 season under new Head Coach Pay Coyle.
Series Notes... Sacred Heart has won all six meeting with Saint Peter's since joining the Division I ranks in 1999. However, in the Division II days, the Peahens took four games from the Pioneers, winning two by 59 points. THe Poineers ate 3-1 all-time on the road against Saint Peter's, while they are 3-2 against Saint Peter's in the William H. Pitt Center, having not lost to the Peahens there since the 1982-83 season.
SHU Against MAAC... Sacred Heart is 19-22 all-time against MAAC opponents
- The Pioneers went 3-0 last year against the MAAC with wins over Saint Peter's (79-34), Manhattan (55-38) and Siena (61-60)
- The only MAAC teams Sacred Heart has a winning record against are Rider, Saint Peter's and Siena
- SHU has faced Manhattan (2-3), Fairfield (5-9), Iona (2-5), Rider (2-0), Saint Peter's (5-4), and Siena (3-1). They have not played against Canisus, Loyola, Marist or Niagara.
The Head Coaches... Jessica Mannetti is in her first season as a collegiate head coach when the Pioneers tip-off in 2013-14. She comes to Sacred Heart after spending the past four seasons as an assistant coach at Hofstra University on Krista Kilburn-Steveskey's staff. While at Hofstra, Mannetti helped guide the Pride to a 72-55 record as well as a pair of appearances in the WNIT. Pat Coyle is in her first season as the women's basketball head coach at Saint Peter's in 2013-14. Coyle makes her return to the Metro Atlantic Conference (MAAC) after coaching Loyola from 1993-98 while also coming back to the New York metropolitan area. Coyle spent more than 10 years with the WNBA's New York Liberty, including five plus seasons as the head coach.
