Sacred Heart Women’s Basketball Head Coach Jessica Mannetti recently attended the 2014 Center for Coaching Excellence, which concluded on June 11, at Columbia University. Mannetti was one of 36 collegiate women’s basketball coaches that completed the invitation-only, two-and-a-half day elite leadership program.

Washington Breaks Scoring Record as Pioneers Lose 2OT Quarterfinal Battle to SFU 132-124
Gabrielle Washington broke the 31-year-old single-game scoring record lighting up the scoreboard with 47 points as the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team lost the double-overtime battle to Saint Francis U 132-124 in the quarterfinal of the Northeast Conference Tournament. The Pioneers, who finish the season 12-18, set the single game scoring record scoring more than 100 points for the first time since 1985.

Three members of the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team receive all-conference honors as announced by the Northeast Conference Thursday morning via Twitter. Johanna Lopez (Silver Spring, Md.) led the Pioneers with a career-high 24 points as the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team fell the Fairleigh Dickinson 75-69 in the 2013-14 regular season finale Monday night in the Stratis Arena. SHU finishes the regular season 12-17 and 9-9 in Northeast Conference play.

The loss drops Sacred Heart sixth place in the Northeast Conference with an 8-8 conference record.

The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak Monday night with the 77-53 defeat of St. Francis Brooklyn in the William H. Pitt Center. For the second time this season, Sacred Heart saw two players eclipse the 20-point marker Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) led all players with 27 points flirting with a double-double with nine rebounds. Red-shirt sophomore Hannah Kimmel (Harpursville, N.Y.) tallied a new career-high of 24 points shooting 60.0% from the field as Sacred Heart improves to 11-14 overall, and 8-6 in Northeast Conference play.

The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team is looking for revenge this Saturday against the Wagner Seahawks. Earlier this season, the Seahawks snapped SHU’s four-game winning streak, handing the Pioneers their first Northeast Conference loss of the year. Wagner comes in having lost four of its last five games; the one win being against Sacred Heart. The Pioneers are coming off a strong 77-59 victory over Central Connecticut State on Monday.

Junior guard Shepard led the Pioneers offensively shooting 55.6% (5-for-9) from the floor and 57.1% (4-for-7) from beyond the arc. The loss drops SHU to 2-7 on the season, and marks the first time the Pioneers have dropped five straight games since the 2008-09 season.

The Saints (2-2) are also riding high after their buzzer- beating 61-60 win over North Florida in the consolation round of the TD Bank Classic in Burlington, Vt. The Pioneers have collected W’s in each of the past three years against Siena, defeating the Saints by just one point last year, 61-60.

The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team won its first overtime game of the year Saturday 76-73 over Saint Peter’s in the Yanitelli Center. Senior Ericka Norman (Chino Hills, Calif.) hit 50% knocking down a career-high seven field goals as the Pioneers improved to 2-2.

After picking up their second Big East overtime loss of the season to Villanova (62-59) Wednesday night at home in the William H. Pitt, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team looks to rebound on the road Saturday against Saint Peter’s. The Peahens, after suffering losses to Hampton (64-37), Brown (64-52) and Navy (70-51), are still in the hunt for their first win of the 2013-14 season under new Head Coach Pay Coyle.

Pioneers Fall to Villanova 62-59 in Overtime
The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team dropped their second overtime game of the season Wednesday at home in the William H. Pitt Center. Junior Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) led all players with 23 points while shooting .526 (10-for-19) from the field as the Pioneers fell 62-59 to Villanova. With the loss, SHU falls to 1-2 on the season, and the Wildcats improve to 4-0.

The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team hands new Head Coach Jessica Mannetti her first win with the 67-54 defeat of Yale University Saturday afternoon. Alissa Tarsi (Clinton, N.J.) lit up the scoreboard with a career-high 13 points, and shot .667 (6-for-9) from the field as the Pioneers improve to 1-1 on the season.

Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) and Caitlyn Abela (South Easton, Mass.) took home both of the first Northeast Conference weekly awards Monday afternoon. Washington earned her first NEC Player of the Week nod of the season, and Abela got the NEC Rookie of the Week nod after making her collegiate debut in Friday's heartbreaking overtime 77-72 loss to St. John's.

Pioneers Head Home with Four Wins; Defeat Killester 84-49
The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team closes out its 10-day tour of Ireland with a 84-49 victory over the Killester Basketball Club Wednesday night. Freshman Caitlyn Abela (South Easton, Mass.) led the team totaling 15 points, while Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) was right behind her with 14. Both players shot well from the court, shooting 50% (4-for-8) and 55% (5-for-9) respectively.

A strong first half led the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team to their third straight win in Ireland 78-51 over DCU Mercy in Dublin. Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) led the team putting 21 points on the board, while rookie Victoria Blackburn (Hershey, Penn.) had a good performance totaling 12 points while shooting 60% from the field.

The Pioneers' fast paced play proved to be an effective tactic over the Glanmire Basketball Club Friday night as they took home their first win of the trip 76-68. Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) led the team lighting up the scoreboard with 16 points, while freshman Caitlyn Abela (South Easton, Mass.) posted a double-double collecting 12 points and an impressive 15 rebounds.

Jessica Mannetti Named Women's Basketball Head Coach
Sacred Heart Executive Director of Athletics Bobby Valentine announced that Jessica Mannetti has been named the Pioneers' new head women's basketball coach at a press conference Tuesday morning. Mannetti becomes the eighth head coach in SHU women's basketball program history and just the second on the Division I level.
