Women's Basketball Inks Second Player For 2011-12 In Early Signing Period

Katie Shepard (Lone Tree, CO) recently committed to Sacred Heart and has signed a national letter of intent to play for Pioneer head coach Ed Swanson beginning in 2011-12.  Shepard, a true point guard, averaged eight points and eight assists in her junior season at Chapparal high school.  She is a two-time team captain and and was a 2010 all-league selection.

"Katie is a true competitor who understands what it takes to be successful at the next level," said Swanson.

Shepard is also a three-time member of the Colorado academic all-state team as well as part of the National Honor Society.  In the past three seasons she has helped guide Chapparal high school to three Elite Eight appearances and one final four in the Colorado state high school championships.  Shepard's AAU squad also compiled a 50-4 record over this past summer.

"Katie comes from AAU and high school programs that stress hard work, discipline and team basketball, things we value here at Sacred Heart University.  She is a dynamic point guard that we hope will serve as a coach on the floor.  Katie's ability to distribute the ball, lead a team and compete will be important assets to this program."
