Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, AZ) has signed a national letter of intent and will be a Sacred Heart Pioneer in the fall of 2011. Washington, the 2008-09 Pima Region player of the year, has averaged over 20 points per game in her last two seasons. Last season she eclipsed the 1,000 point plateau while shooting 48% from the floor, including a 38% mark from three-point range, en route to being named the East Valley Region player of the year.
"Gabby is a perfect fit for us. On and off the floor, she is a motivated student-athlete that will bring leadership to our program," commented Sacred Heart head coach Ed Swanson.
Washington was named to the East Valley Tribune All-State first team in each of the last two seasons. She was also selected to the Arizona Republic All-State first team in 2009-10 after receiving second team accolades in 2008-09. The future Pioneer guard also participated in the 2010 Arizona Basketball Coaches Association Underclassmen All-Star game. Washington was also honored by the Arizona Hot 100, which recognizes the top 100 students, administrators, and teachers in the state.
"Gabby has a great feel for the game. She is an explosive guard who has the ability to score in a variety of ways. We have high expectations for her and believe she can play an important role in her freshmen year."
