Sacred Heart freshmen cross country runners Luis German (Southampton, NY) and Kathleen Henry (Basking Ridge, NJ) were named Northeast Conference Cross Country Rookies of the Week announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

German competed in his first collegiate race on Saturday, and placed 71st with a time of 28:22 to finish as the Pioneers top runner. German's performance moves him into 6th on the Sacred Heart all-time list at races held in Van Cortlandt Park. The race featured three nationally ranked schools in Princeton, Providence and Yale as well as deep teams from Navy, Penn and Rutgers.

Henry, also competiting in her first collegiate race, turned an impressive early season time of 19:53 at the Fordham Invitational. Her time moved her into 10th on the SHU all-time list at Van Cortlandt Park. Among NEC runners, Henry finished behind only Katina Alexander of Monmouth and teammate Katie Duffy. The race featured nationally ranked Princeton, Providence and Yale as well as top-teams from Navy, Penn and Rutgers.

Both Pioneer teams are back in action this Saturday at the St. Fancis (PA) Red Flash Invitational
