BRONX, N.Y. (September 16, 2006) - The Sacred Heart men and women's cross country teams both finished second at the Fordham Ram Invitational Saturday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park, site of the 2006 Northeast Conference Championship. The men came in second (68) in the seven team field behind winner Southern Connecticut State University (54). The women (39) finished behind Stony Brook (27) in an eight team race.

Sophomore David Jones led the SHU men, finishing 11th overall with a time of 28:34. Right on his heels was freshman Ryan Murdoch in 12th clocking in at 28:41. The Pioneers had three other runners finish inside the top-20 with Brendan Rickert coming in 14th (28:47), Joseph Palma in 16th (28:50) and John Kenworthy in 20th (29:13).

Rounding out the SHU top-seven was Steven Zito in 24th at 29:46 and Robert Boertes in 33rd at 30:42.

On the women's side, Sacred Heart's entire top-seven finished in the top-20 runners led by sophomore Kathleen Henry who grabbed her second-straight second place finish. Henry clocked in at 18:58. Twin sisters Anne and Katie Duffy followed Henry, finishing fourth and seventh. Anne posted a time of 19:42 while Katie came in at 20:03.
 

 

Freshman Sarah Teneza was the fourth Pioneer in the top-10, finishing 10th in 20:18. Brooke Palmer came in 16th (20:58), Kathryn O'Connor took 18th (21:06) and Julie Mahoney rounded out the top-seven in 20th (21:27).

The Pioneers are back in action on September 30th at the New England Championships.
