FAIRFIELD, CT (September 21, 2013) - The Sacred Heart men's cross country team had the top-two finishers led by graduate student Christopher Connelly (Medford, NY) who took home the individual title at the 36th Annual Father Leeber S.J. Invitational at Fairfield University Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers finished fourth as a team in the six team race.
Connelly took home his first career individual title on Saturday, besting the field with a time of 26:07.98. Connelly picks up his second top-five finish in as many races this season. He finished third at this race last season.
Right on his heels in second place was sophomore Sean Ferguson (Smithtown, NY) who clocked in on the 8k course with a time of 26:14.17. Ferguson ran 11th in the Fairfield Invite last fall. His second place finish is his best finish of his career.
Freshman Robert Challenor (Coram, NY) finshed in 25th place with a time of 28:51.63, senior Kevin Schumann (Wayner, NJ) was 28th in a time of 29:11.04 and freshman Cameron Swift (Oxford, CT) was 33rd with a time of 29:32.70.
The Pioneers will run next weekend at the Saint Francis U Father Bede Invitational at Immegrun Golf Course, the site of the 2013 Northeast Conference Championshipin early November.
