(Madison, CT) - The Sacred Heart Pioneer Men's and Women's Cross Country teams both participated in the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Saturday, November 13 at Hammonasset State Park.
Brendan Rickert (Danbury, CT) led the way for the Pioneer men with a personal best time of 32:10.2, the second fastest finish in a 10 K race in program history. The graduate senior finished just three seconds off the all-time SHU record in one of the last races of his career for 101st overall. Sacred Heart finished 27th overall out of 39 participating teams. Rounding out the top seven for SHU were Richard Marcello (Foster, RI) – 151st - 32:57.5, Jeffrey Lusignan (East Montpelier, VT)- 154th - 33:03.7, Colin Seidl (Cochecton, NY)-171st-33:27.7, Daniel Koehler (Red Hook, NY)-177th-33:38.2, and Stephen Benoit (Wethersfield, CT)-187th-33:50.2.
The Pioneer women placed 30th out of 35 teams, with Brittnay Lane leading the charge for SHU with a 23:00.4 and 148th overall finish. Also finishing in the top seven for SHU were Brianna Castrogivanni (Commack, NY)-177th-23:23.9, Alyssa Selmquist (Northford, CT-)181st-23:33.0, Samantha Troy (Lebanon, CT)-191st-23:47.7, Michelle Navarro (Piscataway, NJ)-203rd-24:05.2, Mekenzie Krause (Bennington, VT)-209th-24:27.0.
Next weekend, the men's team will run in the IC4A Championship while the women will compete in the ECAC Championship, both at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, NY. Start time for the women is 9:30 a.m., while the men are set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
