Cory Dunn (Rutherford, NJ) has been named the Enterprise Rent-A-Car/Sacred Heart University Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of November 9-16. Dunn finished second in the 133 pound weight class at the Binghamton Tournament over the weekend.
Dunn posted a record of 4-1 in the tournament as the Pioneers opened their season. The redshirt junior opened the tournament with an impressive and decisive 14-0 win over Mark Acara of Cortland State. He then rolled to a 7-3 triumph in his second round match with Brian Bollette of Rutgers.
Dunn advanced to the semifinals with a 7-4 victory as he knocked off Alex Courmoyer from CAA rival Boston University. The semifinal matchup was the closest match of the tournament as Dunn battled his way past Andrew Grabfelder 4-3, earning him a spot in the championship match. Dunn eventually fell just short in the finals dropping a 10-6 decision to Jason Guffey of Bloombsurg. Dunn’s effort was an impressive one as he fought through a very tough bracket and earned a well deserved second place finish.
Dunn and the rest of the Pioneers will look to continue their winning ways this week as they take on Stevens Tech in a dual meet Monday night. Sacred Heart will also travel to Ithaca, NY for the Body Bar Invitational Saturday November 22nd.
