ITHACA, NY (November 23, 2009) - On Saturday, the Sacred Heart University wrestling team took part in the Body Bar Invitational hosted by Cornell University this Saturday. Red-shirt junior Pat Feeley (Johnston, RI) was the top finisher for the Pioneers, taking home fifth place in the 125 pound weight class. After falling to the fourth seeded James Knox, of Maryland), Feely bounced back with wins over Cornell's Tyler Biscaha and Maryland's Lou Ruland to set up a rematch with Knox. In their second meeting, Feeley majored Knox 9-1.
The Pioneers got first round victories at 141 from red-shirt senior Cory Dunn (Rutherford, NJ) and from heavyweight junior Paul Schweighardt (Tinton Falls, NJ). Dunn won in a 10-7 decision over Clarion's Michael Home and Schweighardt went the distance against Robert Ryhal, of Buffalo, for an 8-3 win. Schweighardt won again in the second round, defeating Columbia's Kevin Lester 8-3, before falling before falling to third seeded Patrick Gilmore, of Maryland.
Sophomore Jonathan Rizzitello (Paramus, NJ) defeated eighth seeded Eric Gobin, of Army, 3-1 in the round of 16 before falling in the quarters to Columbia's Eren Civian, 4-1.
In action on Sunday, SHU participated in the Sprawl Brawl hosted by Binghamton. The Pioneers fell to Edinboro, Rutgers, and Harvard to fall to 1-6 on the season. Red-shirt junior Brandon Lapp (Castleton, NY) went undefeated at 197, by defeating his opponents 4-2, 4-3, and 7-1.
Against Harvard the Pioneers also got wins from Rizzitello, 174 pound senior Michael Hartman (Cranston, RI), and 133 pound freshman Anthony Ricco (Stratford, CT). Dunn posted a 2-0 win over Rutgers' Tom Hogan, while Priore pulled out a victory over Edinboro's Matt Laird, 4-3.
Sacred Heart goes to the mat again on November 28 for the New England Duals in Albany, NY.
