The Sacred Heart wrestling team performed well at the Binghamton University tournament held this weekend. SHU was led by Cory Dunn (Rutherford, NJ) who finished with a 4-1 record taking second place in the 133 pound division. Chris Davis (Mohawk, NY) also had a solid tournament going 5-1 and earning fifth place at 141 pounds.

Several other Pioneers also had strong outings in the first tournament of the season. Paul Galipeau (Rutherford, NJ) at 125 pounds notched a 4-1 record and missed the placement by only one match. Anthony Priore (Garwood, NJ), Austin Alpaugh (Lafayette, NJ) and Bill Beiermeister (Boonton, NJ) all finished the tournament at 3-2.

After the match head coach Casey Brewster commented, “I was very happy with these athletes and the way they competed throughout the day. Both Cory and Chris wrestled very well, and placed in very tough brackets. It was a good early test for the team, to see where we are early in the season. We still have a long way to go and things we can work on.”

The wrestling team returns to the mat tonight for their home opener as they take on Stevens Tech. The match is set for 6:00 pm and will be held in the William H. Pitt Center.
