FAIRFAX, VA - The Sacred Heart wrestling split four matches this weekend at the CAA Duals held at George Mason University. The Pioneers started poorly losing both matches on Friday evening. Old Dominion defeated SHU 27-14 and host George Mason narrowly beat Sacred Heart 25-23.

On day two of the event, Sacred Heart looked sharp in defeating James Madison 24-14 and Campbell University 48-6. The Pioneers move to 5-3 in the CAA conference and 5-7 overall in dual meets.

"The bottom line is we have to get better. We have shown improvement and that must continue for us to be successful at the conference tournament," remarked Coach Andy Seras.

Payam Zarrinpour (285), Sherwood Fendryk (157) and Kyle McCarthy (133) all posted 4-0 records at the duals. Zarrinpour, ranked 8th in the nation, moved his record to 27-3 on the season. Junior captain Sherwood Fendryk moved to 20-6 on the season, reaching the 20 win plateau for the third straight year. Kyle McCarthy, SHU's only senior starter, has return to top form after early season injury problems and now is 10-5 on the year.

Sacred Heart's other top performers were: Andrew Silber (184) who went 3-1, Chris Davis (141) 3-1, Mike DelViscovo (141) 1-0 and Mike Arone (125) 2-2.

Sacred Heart travels to West Point on Wednesday to take on the Black Knights of the US Military Academy at 7:30 pm.
