The Sacred Heart men's wrestling team hosted their second home dual meet of the season as they took on the Pride of Hofstra. SHU was lead by Elliott Antler who picked up a decision victory at the 184 pound weight class.  

 

The Pioneers got off to a rough start at they were forced to give up a forfeit at 125 pounds giving the Pride an early 6-0 lead in the team standing. Gerard Daly went out at 133 battling with Hofstra's Vinny Vespa, Daly who looked good early gave up a takedown that would go on to be the deciding factor, losing a decision 4-1. The Pioneers had to give up another forfeit at 141 pounds putting the Pride up 15-0. Kyle Brady entered the match for the 149 pound weight class and gave up a major decision 14-2.

Casey Mitchell who had been on a roll lately came in for 157 pounds to take on Jake Kaminsky. Mitchell who got an early takedown to put the score 2-0 early. Kaminsky would then escape, and get a takedown for himself to put the score at 3-2 in favor of Kaminsky entering the 2nd period. Mitchell would take bottom for the third period and get a quick reversal putting the score 6-5, in favor of Kaminsky. After giving up a late takedown in the third Mitchell would go on to fall by decision 9-6.

Senior Matt Fisher was up next for SHU at 165 pounds. He gave up an early pair of takedowns to trail 5-1 at the end of first periods. Fisher would go on to lose by major decision 11-3. The Pioneers trailed 32-0 after Domenico Celli gave up a first period pin in 1:01.

Junior Elliott Antler was the highlight of the night as he took on Hofstra's Michael Oxley. The first period was slow as it ended with the score 0-0. Oxley then selected bottom for the 2nd period as Antler rode him the entire period to gather up 2:00 minutes of riding time. Entering the third period Antler chose bottom and got a quick reversal to put him up 2-0. Antler went on to pick up a 6-2 decision and put the Pioneers on the board!

The Pioneers would go on to lose the last two matches as Sasha Oliinyk lost by decision 8-2, while John Hartnett lost a decision 8-1.

The Pioneers are back at the William H. Pitt center Sunday the 22nd as they host a tri-dual against Bloomsburg and F&M on January.
