Kalani Efstathiou Named CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine District I Academic All-American

Fairfield, CT - Junior Kalani Efstathiou (Beaverton, OR) of the Sacred Heart men's volleyball team has been named to the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American District I At-Large team. Efstathiou was selected to the first team, meaning his name will now be included on the national ballot with the top academic student-athletes from around the country.

Efstathiou is entering his final year at Sacred Heart studying mathematics. He was recently named to the EIVA All-Academic team, holding the highest GPA of any player in the league.

The Pioneers best all-around player, Efstathiou led all SHU players with 384 kills on the season, an average of more than four per game. He also was a force on the defensive side of the ball with 157 digs, second most on the team. He was second on the team in service aces with 29.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects the Academic All-America At-Large team out of a pool of student-athletes from the following sports: women's bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling.
