SHU Men's Volleyball Loses in Three to Rivier College

FAIRFIELD, CT (February 25, 2005) - The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team lost in three games to Rivier College in the William H. Pitt Center Friday night. The Raiders posted wins of 30-27, 30-21 and 30-28 to improve to 13-5 overall while SHU falls to 0-7 on the season.

Rivier's Andrew Chase led all players with 20 kills and a .457% hitting percentage. He also collected four block assists in the win. Nhut Chau passed out 35 assists and led his team to an overall hitting percentage of .314% (47-15-102). Three players had double digit kills for the Raiders in Chau with 10, Jeff Costa with 12 and Mike Buccarelli with 11.

The Pioneers go 11 kills from senior Michael Gardner (Brookfield, WI) in the loss. Gardner hit .346% (11-2-26) in the match and also had five digs and two block assists. Junior Jake Pelletier (Coventry, RI) posted nine kills while junior Tommy Karavas (Astoria, NY) passed out 33 assists.

The Pioneers are right back in action tomorrow morning when they travel to SUNY-New Paltz for a quad match starting at 10:00 am.
