Men's Volleyball Named To AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll

The Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team earned AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll for the 2016-17 season. The Pioneers earned the honor as one of the top-five men's volleyball teams academically during the campaign.

The 19 student-athletes on the Pioneer roster last season combined for a 3.465 GPA during the academic year.  The squad posted the third highest GPA of men's teams at SHU during both the fall (3.46) and spring (3.47) semesters.

The men's volleyball team also earned the AVCA Team Academic Award, presented annually to volleyball teams that maintain a 3.30 GPA as a team.  It marks the second consecutive year that SHU has earned the AVCA academic award.

The AVCA Team Academic Award, celebrating its 25th year, is the single largest award offered by quantity of schools, players and coaches honored. Since the 2000-2001 season, the number of recipients have increased every single year but two, while amassing a 542 team increase over the span of the last decade. Since the award's inception in 1993, the amount of award winners has increased from 71 to its current number of 835.

SHU enjoyed one its most successful seasons in program history, posting a 15-11 overall mark and earning the three-seed in the EIVA Tournament. Joshua Ayzenberg was named an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and was one of three Pioneers to earn EIVA All-Academic Team accolades.
