BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (December 11, 2013)—The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team was picked to finish seventh in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's preseason poll. Receiving seven of the eight first-place votes, the reigning 2013 EIVA Champion Penn State was selected as the favorite to capture the 2014 championship.
"The guys are really looking forward to getting our season started," said Head Coach Kalani Efstathiou. "They have worked diligently over the last several months and have seen great progress during the fall. We look to build off of that progress as we begin competition in January."
The Pioneers finished the 2013 campaign 4-19 with a 2-12 EIVA record. For the eighth time, the team earned an NCAA Public Recognition Award for scoring in the top 10 percent with respect to their Academic Progress Rate making Sacred Heart one of 61 institutions across the country who have had at least one team all eight years. Now-graduated Adrian Fernandez (San Juan, P.R.) and now-junior Ray Satagaj (Rocky Hill, Conn.) were also recognized for their achievements in the classroom being named to the EIVA All-Academic Team.
Sacred Heart opens the 2014 season at IPFW on Friday, January 10 at 7:00 p.m.
