The Sacred Heart University community is mourning the loss of Patrick Sibley, a former member of the men’s volleyball team, after he died tragically on Sunday morning in a Metro train-related accident.

Eight SHU Teams Earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards
The NCAA announced their Public Recognition Awards this week with eight Sacred Heart athletic programs being recognized for their academic achievements. The men’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams, men’s volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s ice hockey, women’s golf and women’s bowling were recognized for scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with respect to their Academic Progress Rates (APRs). Top-performing teams this year posted APR scores ranging from 978 to a perfect 1,000.

Fernandez and Satagaj Named to EIVA All-Academic Team
Sacred Heart's Adrian Fernandez (San Juan, P.R.) was named to the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) 2013 All-Academic Team, which was announced Tuesday afternoon. The team includes 10 student-athletes from six of the eight institutions.

Men's Volleyball Swept by Harvard on Senior Day
Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) led the Pioneers with 10 kills as the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team was swept by Harvard on “Senior Day” in the William H. Pitt Center Saturday afternoon. With the loss in their final game of the season, SHU closes 2013 with a 4-19 and 2-12 in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action.

Pioneers Fall in Five to NJIT
Nick Hunt (Uniondale, N.Y.) led the match with 15 kills as the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team fell to NJIT in five sets Saturday afternoon in the William H. Pitt Center. Freshman Ray Satagaj (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led the Pioneers hitting .353 in the match, recording nine kills on 17 attempts with three errors. SHU drops to 4-18 on the season and 2-11 against EIVA opponents heading into their final match of the season next Saturday night against Harvard.

Borsay and Hunt Lead Pioneers over Scarlet Raiders in Five Sets
The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team topped Rutgers-Newark in a five-set battle Friday night in the William H. Pitt Center. Three Pioneers reached double-digit kills in the set with junior Brady Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) leading the match with 19, while Nick Hunt (Unionville, N.Y.) had 17 and Raymond Satagaj (Rocky Hill, Conn.) posted 11. SHU improves to 4-16 on the season and 2-10 in EIVA play.

SHU Swept by Princeton
The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team was swept by Princeton Saturday afternoon in the William H. Pitt Center. Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) led the match with 10 kills, while freshman setter Benjamin Thomas (Swansea, Ill.) recorded 28 assists. The Pioneers were outplayed by the Tigers, who are the No. 2 team in the EIVA, on all levels, being outhit .386 to .167 despite each team registering 35 kills. Twenty-one attack errors hurt SHU who fell 25-21, 25-18 and 25-13. The Pioneers are now 3-17 in 2013 and 1-10 in conference.

Pioneers Downed by Patriots in Five Sets
Junior Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) registered 18 kills while hitting .424 in the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball Team’s 3-2 loss to Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association opponent George Mason Friday night in the William H. Pitt Center. The Pioneer won the first two sets of the match, but the Patriots rallied back to take the last three for the win. SHU drops to 3-16 with the loss and 1-9 in conference.

Pioneers Come Back for 3-2 Win Over Erskine
Down 2-0 in the match, the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team rallied back taking the last three sets for their first home win of the season. Brad Borsay (Richmond, Va.) led the team with 20 kills over Erskine, while Travis Vonholt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) hit .625 with 10 kills on 16 attempts with no errors. The Pioneers improve to 3-15 with the win.

SHU Drops Match 3-1 to Harvard
The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team fell in four sets to Harvard Wednesday night. Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) led the Pioneers with 14 kills, while Travis Vonholt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) hit .667 posting seven kills on nine attempts with just one error. The Pioneers are now 2-14 on the season and 1-8 against EIVA opponents.

Errors hurt the Pioneers in the 3-0 loss to Ball State Saturday night. Nick Hunt (Uniondale, N.Y.) hit a team-high seven kills, while Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) collected six, but the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team only hit .042 as a team as they fell to 2-13.

Jason Kinney (Salem, N.H.) led the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team in the 3-1 loss to IPFW Friday night with 11 kills. Raymond Satagaj (Rocky Hill, Conn.) posted a .357 hitting percentage as the Pioneers fell to 2-12 on the season.

After being out for the majority of the season due to injury, Nick Hunt (Uniondale, N.Y.) led the match with 14 kills on Saturday night as the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball Team fell to George Mason in three straight sets. Jose Juelle (Guaynabo, PR) hit .312 on the night with five kills on 16 attempts with no errors.

Benjamin Thomas (Swansea, Ill.) posted 35 assists as the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team fell to Princeton in four sets Friday night. Brad Borsay led the team with 12 kills, while Travis Vonholt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) hit 45.5% with seven kills on 11 attempts. The Pioneers are now 2-10 this season and 1-6 in conference play.

The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team announced their Senior Day and two upcoming alumni events earlier this week. Senior Day, honoring the Class of 2013 Garret Minyard (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Adrian Fernandez (San Juan, PR), will be held on April 20 when the Pioneers host Harvard.

The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team fell in three sets Saturday night to NJIT. Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) led the Pioneers with eight kills, while Adrian Fernandez (San Juan, PR) hit .238 with nine kills on 21 attempts and just four errors. Sacred Heart falls to 2-9 on the season.

Pioneers Sweep Scarlet Raiders 3-0 for First EIVA Win
Junior Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) led the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team to their first Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association win Thursday night with 13 kills. The Pioneers swept Rutgers Newark, winning every set 25-23, to improve to 2-8 on the season and 1-4 in conference.

The Pioneers battled Saint Francis U Friday night for the NEC Cup, taking the first two sets into extra points, but the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball Team fell in three sets. Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) led the team with 12 kills, and crafty setter Benjamin Thomas (Swansea, Ill.) was a perfect four-or-four in attacks as SHU falls to 1-7 on the season and 0-3 against Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association opponents.

Men's Volleyball Participating in "EIVA Rallies" March 13 and April 20
The Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) has announced the formation of the “EIVA Rallies” campaign in conjunction with the Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital for Cancer Research Center. The Sacred Heart Men's Volleyball Team will be participating in "EIVA Rallies" in their matches against Harvard on March 13 and April 20.

Pioneers Collect First Win; Split the Day
The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball Team split Saturday afternoon, going 1-1 in Hoboken, N.J. in a tri-match hosted by Stevens Tech. The Pioneers collected their first win of the season Saturday afternoon sweeping Ramapo 3-0, and, later that afternoon, they fell in a five-set match to host-school Stevens Tech. Brad Borsay (Richmond, Va.) led both matches with 14 kills, hitting .333 on 33 attempts with only 3 errors in the win, and 21 kills in the loss. The Pioneers are now 1-6 on the season.

Pioneers Lose Fifth Straight to Saint Francis U
Junior Jason Kinney (Salem, N.H.) led the Pioneers with 15 kills as the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball Team lost their fifth straight match Saturday night to Saint Francis U 3-1. SHU is now 0-5 on the season and 0-2 after the opening weekend of EIVA play.

Pioneers Fall in Three Sets in EIVA Opener
Sacred Heart’s Jason Kinney (Salem, N.H.) led the match recording seven kills, but it was not enough to stop a dominant Penn State team as the Pioneer Men’s Volleyball Team fell in three sets to the Nittany Lions in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association opener. Raymond Satagaj (Rocky Hill, Conn.) hit .429 in the match with three kills on seven attempts with no errors.

Jason Kinney (Salem, N.H.) led the match with 16 kills, but it wasn’t enough as the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball Team fell to Ball State in four sets. The Pioneers are now 0-3 on the season, heading into EIVA conference play next weekend.

Pioneers Drop Match in Five Sets to IPFW
The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball Team outplayed IPFW in many ways, outkilling them 55-53, outdigging ten 39-35, and recording six service aces to their five, but the Mastodons still got the best of the Pioneers winning three sets to two. Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) smashed a match-leading 16 kills, hitting 56.0%, on 25 attempts with just two errors. Freshman Raymon Satagaj (Rocky Hill, Conn.) hit 50.0% tonight; recording 10 kills on 16 attempts with two errors. SHU is still looking for their first win of the season as the loss drops the to 0-2 on the year.

Pioneer Drop Season Opener 3-1
The Pioneers took the floor tonight for their season opener led by new Head Coach Kalani Efstathiou. A 2010 graduate of Sacred Heart and alumnus of the Men’s Volleyball program, Efstathiou looked for his first career win against Grand Canyon University of Phoenix, Ariz. Sacred Heart’s Jason Kinney (Salem, N.H.) led the match with 18 kills, but the Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team dropped the 2013 season opener 3-1 to Grand Canyon University.

Men's Volleyball tabbed 7th in Preseason Coaches' Poll
Fairfield, CT – The Sacred Heart men's volleyball was selected to finish 7th in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association's (EIVA) preseason coaches' poll. Penn State was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the conference.
