FAIRFIELD, CT (March 24, 2012) - The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team dropped their 10th straight match Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Harvard in EIVA action in the William H. Pitt Center. The Crimsons won 25-22, 16-25, 25-22 and 25-18 to improve to 14-3, 6-2 in the EIVA while SHU falls to 4-17 and 1-9 in league play.
The Pioneers had three players with double digit kills led by r-sophomore Nick Hunt (Uniondale, NY) who posted 18 and hit .256 (18-7-43) in the match. Sophomore Bradley Borsay (Richmond, RI) hit .400 (15-1-35) and posted 15 kills along with three service aces. Classmate Enzo Mackenzie (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) finished with 12 kills in the loss.
Harvard led wire to wire in the first set but the Pioneers would bounce back in the second, hitting .375 as a team (12-3-24) while taking advantage of five Crimson service errors for a 25-16 win. The crucial third set saw 13 ties and seven lead changes before Harvard pulled away late for a 25-22 win. The Crimson hit .394 (15-2-33) in the set. Harvard left no doubt in the fourth, putting the match away with another strong hitting effort, .423 (15-4-26).
The Crimson got 15 kills from freshman DJ White who hit .375 (15-3-32) and collected nine digs. Senior Matt Jones posted 12 kills and a .321 (12-3-28) hitting percentage, finishing off a double double with 10 digs. Both sophomores Will Chambers and Nick Madden finished with 10 kills a piece.
Sacred Heart will return to the court on Friday, March 30th when they face Limestone at 7 pm.
