2008 NCAA East Regional Championship Results
TALLAHASSE, Fla. (May 31, 2008) - Sacred Heart senior Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY) ran away with the 400 meter title on Saturday at the NCAA East Regional Championship and was joined by fellow senior Marsha Locke (Danbury, CT) in garnering NCAA All-East Regional honors at the two-day event at Flordia State University. Dixon will now move on to compete in the 400m at the NCAA Championships at Drake University in two weeks.
Dixon won the event on Saturday, edging out Levi Brooks of Charleston Southern and crossing the tape in 45.67 seconds, breaking his own school record yet again. Dixon's time also met the Olympic Trial 'B' standard of 45.95 seconds which will enter him in the event held at the end of June. The Olympic Trial 'A' standard is 45.00 seconds and automatically qualifies an athlete for the event.
The senior sprinter also placed in the 200 meters, finishing eighth in the event in 22.82 seconds. Dixon could receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship meet in the event. Dixon already met the Olympic Trial 'B' standard in the event during the indoor season via his win at the New England Championships in a time of 26.6 seconds.
Locke put the finishing touches on her stellar SHU career with a sixth place showing in the shot put to garner NCAA All-East honors. Her toss of 49'9.25" once again topped her own school record in the event as she becomes the first Pioneer female athlete to place at the NCAA Regional meet.
The NCAA Championships will take place from Wednesday, June 11th through Saturday, June 14th in De Moines, Iowa.
