Sacred Heart junior Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY) earned an at-large bid to the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in the 200-meters via his performance at last weekend's regional meet. Dixon ran fifth in the 200-meters at the NCAA Regional Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL on Saturday. Dixon clocked in with a season best time of 20.72 in the finals to earn his trip to Sacremento, California in June.
Dixon has already claimed All-American honors this year, claiming the honor during this past indoor season. Dixon placed seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. As the first SHU athlete to compete at the NCAA meet, Dixon did not disappoint, advancing to the finals in the 200 with the fourth fastest preliminary time at 20.80. He finished seventh overall in the event by coming across the line in 20.94.
The junior earned Most Valuable Performer honors at the 2007 Northeast Conference Championship keeping his win streak in tact, taking the gold in the 100m (10.75) and the 200m (21.55) while also placing fifth in the long jump (6.88m). Dixon won the Most Valuable Perfomrer honors at the NEC Indoor Championship during the winter season. He also took home this year's Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Performer award, sharing the honor with FDU's Samuel Chelanga.
The top five in each event at the NCAA Regional Championships automatically qualify for NCAAs, with the #6-12 finishers in each event having an opportunity to earn an at-large bid for NCAAs, based on their best mark of the year.
The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are slated for Wednesday, June 6th through Friday, June 8th in Sacramento, CA.
