2009 New England Championship Women's Results
The Sacred Heart men's track & field team took home an eighth place finish at this weekends New England Championship while the women finished 15th. The Pioneers collected 34 points at the event led by a second place finish by the 4x800 meter relay team.
The team of junior Matthew Chorney (Bristol, NH), sophomore Daniel Koehler (Red Hook, NY), sophomore Andrew Houghtalen (West Charlton, NY) and senior Luis German (Southampton, NY) finished second in a time of 7:41.10 in the distance relay.
SHU picked-up a pair of top-five finishes in the 100-meter hurdles as freshman Bertony Jean-Louis (Norwalk, CT) took home third in 14.63 seconds followed by sophomore Peter Conti (Mansfield, MA) in fifth in 14.93 seconds. Jean-Louis also scored points for the Pioneers in the triple jump with an eighth place finish with a leap of 44'9.00" (13.64m).
Freshman Chase Petrucci (Harvey Cedars, NJ) took sixth in the shot put with a toss of 48'10.25" (14.89m). Koehler also scored for the Pioneers in the 3,000 meter steeplechase finishing seventh in a time of 9:28.89. The SHU 4x100 relay team finished seventh with a time of 42.65 seconds.
In the decathlon, senior Thomas Hyatt (Hopewell Junction, NY) finished third overall with a total of 6,153 points. Hyatt won the high jump and pole vault events. Sophomore Daniel Galanto (East Hampton, CT) finished seventh with 5,624 total points.
On the women's side, Jamie Kilis (Marlborough, CT) had a strong finish in the weight throw with a third place finish, recording a throw of 178'10" (54.50m). She finished fifth in the discus with a heave of 133'3" (40.62m). Also scoring in the event was freshman Christi Middleton (Colchester, CT) who finished eighth at 129'00" (39.31m). In the shot put, freshman Carol Cress (Butler, PA) took sixth with a throw of 42'6.00" (12.95m).
Pioneer distance runners, freshman Mekenzie Krause (Bennington, VT) and sophomore Dana Troy (Lebanon, CT) each scored in the 10,000 meters. Krause took fourth in 40:06.77 with Troy right behind in fifth at 40:39.88.
