Sacred Heart senior Scott Giordano (Hamden, CT) and freshman Angelica Johnson (Little Ferry, NJ) picked up a pair of Northeast Conference Track & Field weekly awards on Tuesday. Giordano was named the NEC Track Athlete of the Week while Johnson nabbed her third NEC Rookie of the Week nod.
Giordano takes over the position of NEC Track Athlete of the Week, an honor that teammate Arman Dixon has held on two occasions this season. Giordano registered the fastest 200-meter time in the NEC thus far with his winning performance at the Pioneers' annual tri-meet that features local rivals Boston College and Boston University. The senior sprinter clocked in at 21.89 to earn a berth into the IC4A Championships. He also took second in the 400-meter dash and anchored the victorious 4x400-meter relay.
Johnson is the NEC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season thanks to the 55-meter victory and 200-meter school record time she posted at Sacred Heart's annual tri-meet with Boston College and Boston University. Johnson won the 55m dash in 7.31 and clocked in at 25.78 for the 200m. Both times are top-three performances in the NEC this far this season.
