FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart men's and women's track and field teams have both been named All-Academic teams by the USTFCCCA. To earn this honor, each team must finish with a team grade-point of 3.0 or higher during the spring 2018 semester. The SHU women combined for a 3.51 team GPA, while the men had a 3.17 GPA.
In addition, seniors Kate Svensen and Trevor Guerrera both earned individual All-Academic honors. As nursing majors, Svensen tabbed a 3.79 GPA during the spring 2018 semester and Guerrera collected a 3.39 GPA.
To earn individual honors, a student-athlete must rank in the top 96 in an individual event during the Division I indoor season, or qualify for the NCAA First Round prelims or national championship meet during the outdoor season. Guerrera finished the indoor season ranked 20th nationally in the 800m (1:48.41), and both Guerrera (800m) and Svensen (10,000m) qualified for the outdoor East Regional prelims in Tampa.
All told, SHU was among 141 men's teams and 220 women's teams to earn the distinction. The SHU men were one of three teams from the Northeast Conference to earn the distinction, while the women were one of six teams.
