SHU Track Completes First Full Day Of New England Championships
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Sacred Heart men's and women's track and field teams completed the first full day of competition at the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at Westfield State University.
Drayke Jackson finished the decathlon on Friday in second place with 5,195 points. On Thursday, Jackson had four second-place finishes out of five events. He was second in the 100 meters, 400 meters, long jump and high jump. He opened Friday with a second place in the 110 meter hurdles and closed the competition with third place showings in the javelin and 1500 meters. The men's track team also got a team point from Scott Sheehan, who finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 185'7".
The women's track team earned six team points from Elizabeth Hutchins in the 5000 meters. The junior finished third in the race with a time of 17:10.78. Dylan Baker's leap of 17'.5" in the long jump vaulted her to a fifth-place finish and four team points. Mareena DiMilia (168'10") and Kolbi Smith (167'09") placed fifth and sixth respectively in the hammer throw, giving the Pioneers seven more points. Molly Barker ran a 37:45.59 in the 10,000 meters to finish sixth. Katelyn Racanelli qualified eighth for Saturday's 400 meter dash final with a time of 57.17. Nicole Bartosch won the 200 meters and had two other top-five finishes in the first day of the heptathlon.
The women's track and field team is second in the team standings after Friday's competition with 20 points, two points behind New Hampshire for first place. The men's team is 10th with nine points.
The meet continues on Saturday.
