BOSTON – Sophomore Sean Ferguson (Smithtown, N.Y.) shattered his own school record in the 5000m this weekend, winning the event at the New England Intercollegiate Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center. The Sacred Heart men's track team finished the meet in eighth place with 26 points.
Ferguson ran a time of 14:23.98 in his 5000m win, breaking his previous school record in the event by 15 seconds. He qualified for the IC4A Championships in the event as well as in the mile. Ferguson's time of 4:10.79 in the mile is a new personal best and also the third-fastest indoor mile in Sacred Heart history. Two other Pioneers qualified for the IC4A meet this weekend. Gregory Hazell's (Airmont, N.Y.) jump of 47'3.75" in the triple jump led to a fifth-place finish. Marc Troiani finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 52'4.5".
Sacred Heart also earned nine team points in the heptathlon. Drayke Jackson (East Northport, N.Y.) finished third with 4,790 points, placing second in the high jump and third in the 60m hurdles and the pole vault. Jordan Dudley (Stratford, Conn.) was sixth with 4,173 points, winning the 60m dash in the event. Cameron Swift ran a personal-best 2:31.43 in the 1000m.
The Pioneers return to BU next weekend for the IC4A Championships March 7-8.
