Sacred Heart junior Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) was named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday by the league office. Kasyanov has collected five NEC weekly awards this spring and has a league best eight awards to his credit this season.
After temporarily yielding the NEC Player of the Week award to Quinnipiac's John Hughes, Kasyanov reclaims the honor that he has held five out of a possible six weeks this semester. Kasyanov and the Pioneers contested only one match last week, and came away with a key defeat of NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson. The third-year Pioneer topped FDU's Dominic Hemy in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. The victory was Kasyanov's sixth straight in singles play and raised his season record to 13-3 in dual matches. He also teamed up with Nick Mazzarese to notch a win at No. 3 doubles.
