Storrs, CT - Christian Malerba and Joey Michaels each won their singles matches and teamed up to clinch the doubles point to lead the UConn men's tennis team past Sacred Heart, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon. The loss is the first dual match defeat of the year for the Pioneers.

Freshmen Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) and Michael Syer (Ontario, CA) won their singles matches to earn the only two points for Sacred Heart. Kasyanov took the number one match over Joe Goldstein 6-2, 6-0, to improve to a team best 9-2 in singles on the season. Syer won his match at second singles over Ben Schueler 4-6, 6-1, 10-6.

Freshman Nick Mazzarese (Stonington, CT) won the first set of his match butthen dropped the next two, falling to Malerba. The Huskies won all three doubles matches and swept singles flights three through six to take the match,

The Pioneers are back in action this weekend at the ITA Championships at Princeton.
