HAMDEN, Conn. (October 13, 2006) - The Sacred Heart men's tennis team was in action on Friday afternoon at the first day of competition at the Quinnipiac Bobcat Invitational.

Junior Chris McDonnell (Naugatuck, CT) notched a opening singles round win in Flight "B" by defeating Marco Lombardo from Holy Cross, 6-2, 6-3.

SHU had a pair of tough fought matches come up short. Sophomore Bryan Rodgers (Mystic, CT) lost the first set to John Burke of Holy Cross, 6-2. Rodgers rebounded with a 6-4 win in the second but lost in the deciding third, 10-7.

Fellow sophomore Matthew Cook (Milford, CT) lost a hard fought match as well, coming up short to Chris Bane of Fairfield. Cook dropped the first set 6-2, won the second 6-2, but lost in the third set, 10-8.

Second round singles action and doubles play will continue tomorrow afternoon at Quinnipiac.
