LOUDONVILLE, NY (October 6, 2004) The Sacred Heart University men's tennis team fell 5-2 at the hands of Siena College Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers won two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point but were beaten 5-1 in singles play.
Freshmen Jared Dye (Bridgeport, CT) and Joseph Merendino (Bronx, NY) teamed up at #1 doubles to beat Brian Onofry and Ryan May, 8-4. Fellow freshman Chris McDonnell (Naugatuck, CT) and sophomore Ernie Keer (Bay Head, NJ) earned the Pioneers the doubles point with their win at #3 doubles, 8-5, over Jose Loren and Adam Mastioanni.
Merendino came back to earn the only singles win for SHU, toping May 7-5, 6-7(3) (10-5).
The Pioneers are back in action this weekend when they face Wagener, Hofstra and Stony Brook in Stony Brook, NY.
