FAIRFIELD, CT (October 5, 2005) - The Sacred Heart tennis team lost it's season opening dual match, 7-0, to Siena College Wednesday afternoon in Fairfield, Connecticut. The Saints improve to 4-3 overall while SHU is now 0-1.

The lone Pioneer win came at #3 doubles where senior Kevin Teague (Yonkers, NY) and sophomore Chris McDonnell (Naugatuck, CT) teamed to defeat Chris Auffredou and Nino Alivodic, 8-4.

Junior Kevin Guidicipietro (Mountainside, NJ) and sophomore Joseph Merendino (Bronx, NY) played tough at #2 doubles, losing 9-8 (4) to Mike Aliotta and Jose Loren.

In singles, Merendino took the first set, 7-6, but lost the match 6-4 and 10-6 to Auffredou. Freshman Bryan Rodgers (Mystic, CT) lost a battle iwth Alivodic, winning the first set 7-6 (10-8) but losing the match 7-5 and 10-5.

The Pioneers are next in action this weekend at the Stony Brook Duals.
