Men's Tennis Advances to NEC Tournament Semi's

WEST WINDSOR, NJ - Junior Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) won his league-best 24th match of the year to help the top-seeded Sacred Heart men's tennis team defeat #8 Robert Morris, 4-0, in the first round of the Northeast Conference Championships Friday.

The quarterfinal match started outdoors at the Mercer County Outdoor Tennis Center, but finished up inside after rain touched down during singles play.

Kasyanov won 6-1, 6-2 at #1 singles, while Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) defeated David Pinto of RMU by the same score at #2. Sophomore Chad Sullo (Orange, CT) won 6-1, 6-1 at #6 to close out the singles play.

The doubles team of Michael Syer and Adam Gert picked up an 8-4 win in doubles play, while Kasyanov and Nick Mazzarese won 8-1 in their match to give SHU the doubles point.

Next up in the Pioneers' quest to repeat is #4 Monmouth, which bested #5 Mount St. Mary's, 5-0. That match will take place tomorrow morning starting at 9 am.
