FAIRFIELD, CT (April 9, 2005) - The Sacred Heart men's tennis team posted their second-straight win in as many days by beating Fairleigh Dickinson, 5-2, Saturday afternoon in Fairfield. The Pioneers swept the doubles point and posted wins in four singles matches for the win.

Freshmen Jared Dye (Bridgeport, CT) and Joe Merendino (Bronx, NY) started the day with an 8-4 win over Dan Wynne and Chris Bowers at #1 doubles. Junior Peter George (Lynnfield, MA) and senior Alex Kantarelis (Worcester, MA) posted an 8-0 win over Rodrigo Avila and Constandimos Efthymiore to gain SHU the all important doubles point.

The Pioneers got singles wins from George, Kantarelis and freshman Chris McDonnell (Naugatuck, CT) and a default win at #6 singles. George beat Avila, 6-1, 6-1 while Kantarelis won 6-0, 6-0 over Charles Lemay and McDonnell won 6-0 and 6-1 over Efthymiore.

SHU returns to action on Thursday, April 14th when they host Quinnipiac at 2 pm.
