MILFORD, CT (April 4, 2005) - The Sacred Heart University men and women's tennis teams picked up dual-match wins over Northeast Conference opponent Wagner College Saturday afternoon. The men posted a 6-1 win to improve to 4-7 while the women came away with a 7-0 win to move to 7-8 on the year.

The Pioneer men got it started with a sweep in double play. Freshmen Jared Dye (Bridgeport, CT) and Joseph Merendino (Bronx, NY) teamed to beat Steve Johnsen and Asam Amster, 8-2 at #1 doubles. Junior Peter George (Lynnfield, MA) and freshman Chris McDonnell (Naugatuck, CT) posted an 8-1 win over Jeff Quitmeyer and Brandon Soglivzzo at #2 to seal the point of SHU.

On the women's side, the Pioneers swept every match en route to victory. Junior Lauren Galatie (Monroe, CT) led the way with a straight set win over Gina Gelardo, 6-0, 6-0, at #1 singles. Sophomore teammate Pam Pillo (Shelton, CT) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kate Carey at #2 and the duo combined for an 8-0 win at #1 doubled over the duo of Gelardo and Carey.

Juniors Darcy Shoop (Rocky Hill, CT) and Lissa Von Brecht (Cumberland Foreside, ME) each won their singles matches. Shoop posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Stephanie LaRock while Von Brecht won 6-1, 6-1 over Aarti Mahtani. Freshman Jessica Schnell (Schenectady, NY) was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Megan Owen at #5 singles.

The Pioneer men host Monmouth on Monday afternoon and St. Francis (NY) Friday and Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. The women return to action on Sunday afternoon hosting Hartford.
