FAIRFIELD, Conn. (March 27, 2007) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team posted a 4-3 win over Northeast Conference foe Fairleigh Dickinson Tuesday afternoon at the SHU Tennis Courts. The Pioneer men fell at the hands of the Knights, 7-0.

On the women's side, the Pioneers picked-up the doubles point on the strength of wins at #2 and #3. SHU freshmen Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) and Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) sealed the point with an 8-6 win against Clara Smith and Ksenia Chernyshova at #2. Junior Jessica Schnell (Schenectady, NY) and sophomore Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) posted an 8-0 win at #3 over Tricia Small and Neetu Singh.

In singles action, the two teams split the six matches. Kasinow battled her way to a three-set win over Jessica DeCarlos in the closely contested match of the day. After posting a 6-3 win in the first set, DeCarlos rebounded for a 7-6 win in the second. Kasinow rebounded with a 6-2 win in the third to clinch the match and the point.

SHU got wins at #5 and #6 from Finkelstein and Amalfe, both posting 6-0, 6-0 straight set wins. The win puts the Pioneers at 2-1 against NEC competition this season.

On the men's side, senior Chris McDonnell (Naugatuck, CT) lost at #2, 6-2, 6-2 to Priit Gross. In doubles, McDonnell and sophomore Bryan Rodgers (Mystic, CT) fell to Phillip Stephens and Alex Nace at #1, 8-3.
