Sacred Heart University announced the hiring of William Boe-Wiegaard to serve as the Pioneers head men's and women's tennis coach. Boe-Wiegaard comes to SHU following a 13-year career on the ATP and ITF tours.
"We are excited to welcome William to the Pioneer family," said Deputy Director of Athletics Brad Hurlbut. "The success he saw as a collegiate student-athlete, coupled with his professional playing experience, makes him an excellent role model and leader for our tennis program's."

Boe-Wiegaard played in 100 tournaments on the ITF and ATP tours. He earned 20 ATP singles points and 50 doubles points, reaching a career-high ATP singles and doubles ranking of 1,0003 and 900 in 2014 respectively.
A graduate of Bates College, Boe-Wiegaard saw great individual success, winning the NCAA Division III Singles crown in 2006 after finishing as runner-up the season before. He earned All-America selection five times during his career.
SHU Athletics is a member of the Northeast Conference, a 10-instutition NCAA Division I conference. The Pioneers have won a conference best seven Brenda Weare Commissioner's Cups. The Pioneers have captured back-to-back triple crowns, claiming the Commissioner's Cup, the NEC Institutional Academic Award and NEC Building Communities Award the past two seasons; the first school in conference history to achieve that feat. SHU student-athletes posted a 3.35 department GPA in the Spring 2017 semester, marking the 18th consecutive semester that Pioneer student-athletes have combined for a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
