Men's Tennis Picked to Finish Fourth in Northeast Conference

FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Sacred Heart men's tennis team is slated to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference this season, according to the Preseason NEC Coaches Poll Released Friday afternoon by the Conference.

Head Coach Paul Gagliardi, is in his eighth season at the helm of SHU tennis, leads a Pioneer team that is already 1-2 this season after a 4-3 win over Siena on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman Anthony Savio (Bangalore, India) and junior Justin Pagan (Flushing, NY) are both 2-1 in singles dual matches this season.  The Pioneers have been unable to win the doubles points in any of their dual matches so far this year.

Sacred Heart went 2-4 in the Northeast Conference last season, with wins over Saint Francis University and St Francis Brooklyn. The Pioneers' season finished with a loss to Fairleigh Dickinson in the quarterfinals of the NEC Tournament. The Pioneers defeated Wagner 4-0 in the first round of the conference tournament, before falling to FDU. Against Wagner, Sacred Heart secured the doubles point and got wins from Brian Power (Pelham, NY), Kevin Budrawich (New Canaan, CT), and Jeremy Shuskus to secure the win.

The Pioneers are back in action this coming Saturday, the 15th, when the Monmouth Hawks come to town for a 7:00 matchup at Yale Indoor Tennis Center.
