Men's Tennis Has Strong Showing at UCONN Invitational
Fairfield, CT – Over the weekend, the Sacred Heart men's tennis team competed in the annual UCONN Invitational on the campus of the University of the Connecticut. Besides Sacred Heart and the host Huskies, Bryant, Merrimack, Fairfield, Boston University, Quinnipiac and Hartford competed in the tournament.
On the doubles side of things, sophomores Matt Dean (Newington, CT) and Brian Power (Pelham, NY) made it to the finals of the B flight, while senior Luka Bagi (Branford, CT) and junior Justin Pagan (Flushing, NY) made the semi finals of the A flight. The duo of Dean and Power defeated teams from Hartford and Quinnipiac, before falling to a squad from UCONN in the championship of the B.
In singles, the Pioneers had strong showings from Power, Pagan, and senior Kevin Budrawich (New Canaan, CT), who all made the semi-finals of their respective flights. Power won a tough third set tiebreaker over Hartford's Nick Sharwarko, 3-6, 6-3, 10-2, before falling in a highly contested third set tiebreaker to Jacob Spreyer of UCONN, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 in his semi-final.
The Pioneers are back in action this weekend at the Quinnipiac Invitational.
