Storrs, CT – The Sacred Heart men's tennis traveled upstate over the weekend to Storrs, CT to compete in the UCONN Invitational. Eight schools were represented, including a couple NEC foes Bryant and Quinnipiac. Three other Connecticut schools involved were UCONN, Hartford, and Fairfield.
Freshman Jeremy Shuskus (West Hartford, CT) highlighted the weekend for the Pioneers winning the third singles flight. Shuskus did not drop a set until the final and defeated players from Hartford, Quinnipiac and Bryant on his way to the flight championship. Although Shuskus was the only Pioneer to win a flight they also got wins from sophomore Justin Pagan (Flushing, NY), junior Kevin Budrawich (New Canaan, CT), junior Luka Bagi (Branford, CT). Senior John Lopresti (Syosset, NY) won a couple matches in his flight. In doubles action Pagan and Budrawich took down a UCONN team by a score of 8-5 before falling to Merrimack.
The Pioneers will hit the courts next when they face the UCONN Huskies on Wednesday at home at the Sacred Heart tennis courts.
