Fairfield, CT - Junior Jason Tessitore (Orange, CT) has been named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week for the week of October 22-28. Tessitore is the first Pioneer to win a league award this season.
Tessitore scored four times on the week to lead surging Sacred Heart to a pair of road victories. The Pioneers posted a 2-0 win over St. Francis (NY) on Friday, then exploded for five goals in a 5-2 triumph over Long Island two days later to inch closer toward securing an NEC Tournament berth. Tessitore scored the game-winner against the Terriers, knocking in a rebound in the 50th minute. The Orange, CT product then became the first Sacred Heart player in the Division I era to record a hat trick in the win over the Blackbirds. He tied the game on a point blank shot in the box in the 34th minute, then gave the Pioneers a 2-1 lead two minutes later after a feed from Ricarti Mendes. After LIU knotted the game at 2-2, Tessitore netted the game-winner on a breakaway in the 75th minute for his third goal of the contest. By virtue of his goal scoring spree, Tessitore now leads the team and ranks fifth in the conference with six markers.
The Pioneers face Army Tuesday night at 7:00 pm and then close out the regular season Saturday against Fairleigh Dickinson.
