Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart men's soccer team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2009 season. The Pioneers will make nine appearances on their home turf at Campus Field as they meet some of the top teams in the region as well as their traditional Northeast Conference rivals.
Six of SHU's nine home games will be played under the lights at Campus Field to allow young soccer fans from around Fairfield County to come out to games after school hours. The Pioneers 2009 campaign opens on September 1 against Providence College under the lights. Two more road games follow the opener at Siena and Holy Cross.
As September turns into October the Pioneers will play five straight home games. The homestand starts on September 23 against Adelphi. Iona and Yale will also come to Campus Field before NEC play starts on October 2 against Monmouth followed by Mount St. Mary's paying a visit two days later. Following the homestand, the Pioneers will play six of their final nine games on the road, starting with a trip to Western Pennsylvania for Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA) October 9-11. Home dates with Central Connecticut and Quinnipiac precede visits to Army, Bryant, St. Francis (NY) and LIU.
The Pioneers close out the regular season on November 6 against Fairleigh Dickinson. The Northeast Conference Tournament, featuring the top four teams in the league standings will take place November 13-15 at the highest seed.
