Smithfield, RI - The Sacred Heart men's soccer team was unable to erase a first half goal as they fell 1-0 to Bryant Friday afternoon in Northeast Conference action. Tom Nelan scored the game's only goal in the 36th minute with an assist from Sean Reilly. The Pioneers fired seven shots on goal but Matt Miscione kept SHU off the scoreboard. Sacred Heart keeper Alex Fait (Ottawa, Canada) also made seven saves in the loss.
Bryant (4-11-0, 2-5-0 NEC) owned the first half outshooting the Pioneers 9-1. The Bulldogs broke through 9:01 before the intermission on a Nelan header set up by a free kick taken by Reilly.
Sacred Heart (6-6-2, 3-3-1 NEC) turned the tide in the second half getting off 14 shots to Bryant's eight. Brian Francolini (Ellington, CT) led the SHU attack firing three shots, all on goal. But the Pioneers would be unable to find the equalizer and drop to .500 for the season.
The men's soccer team will look to bounce back as they return to aciton on the road next Friday, October 30, to take on St. Francis (NY). Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
