Pioneer Men's Soccer Runs Unbeaten Streak to Six

Brooklyn, NY - Senior Neal Shapiro (Vernon, NJ) scored the only goal of the game and the Pioneers men's soccer team outlasted LIU 1-0 Sunday at LIU Field. With the win the Pioneers are now unbeaten in their last six games.
The game's lone goal came in the 38th minute when senior Tony Allegro (Enfield, CT) dribbled down the right side sending a cross to the far post. Shapiro took the pass, heading in the game-winner. It was Shapiro's third goal of the year, and second game winner.
LIU registered an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks but the Pioneers tallied more shots, 10-8. Freshman Matthew Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England) made four saves in goal for the Pioneers to preserves his second straight shutout. Jones now has five shutouts on the season and has lowered his goals against average to 1.09.
The Pioneers, (4-5-4, 2-1-3, NEC) will close out the season with a three game homestand over the next two weeks. The opener is next Sunday, October 30th, against Fairleigh Dickinson. Game time at Campus Field is 1:00 pm.
