Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Robert Morris this afternoon in Moon Township, PA. Francis Bowman scored the lone goal of the game on a break away in the 20th minute. The Pioneers fired 11 shots but RMU keeper Toba Bolaji kept SHU off the board making four saves to earn the clean sheet. Brian Francolini (Ellington, CT) led the SHU attack putting two shots on goal.
Robert Morris (1-10-1, 1-1-1 NEC) scored just their second goal at home this season on Bowman's marker to take a 1-0 lead. The breakaway was created on a through ball from Neil Shaffer and Bowman flicked the ball past a diving Alex Fait (Ottawa, Canada). The teams combined for just four shots in the first half while neither goalie recorded a save.
Sacred Heart (4-4-1, 1-1-1 NEC) had its best scoring chance late in the second half on a free kick from Jesper Fredriksson (Gothenburg, Sweeden). The Pioneer defensemen unleashed a low line drive shot through traffic but Bolaji made a diving save. Justin Brewer (Somers, CT) got to the rebound but his sliding shot was also turned away as the Pioneers would not be able to find the equalizer.
SHU remains in Pennsylvania as they face off with Saint Francis (PA) in Loretto on Sunday. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
