Oct. 7, 2005

Moon Township, Pa - Sophomore John DelGreco scored with seven seconds left in the second half to lift the Robert Morris University men's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Sacred Heart in both team's Northeast Conference opener at North Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon.

With just over seven minutes left in regulation, sophomore Ryan Zabinski played a corner kick to the near side of the six-yard line. Graduate student Matt Paradise flicked the ball in on net where DelGreco redirected it with his right foot into the back of the net with 7:00 minutes showing on the game clock.

Zabinski earned an assist on all three Colonial goals as RMU jumped out to a 2-0 lead 25:46 into the contest. Sophomore Jacek Przednowek scored his league-leading eighth goal in the sixth minute as he and Zabinski beat two Pioneer defenders and the goaltender in a two-on-two situation. Zabinski fed Przednowek who took a touch right past the goaltender and buried the ball into the empty net.

Zabinski set up another goal in the 26th minute as he played a short cross to junior Allan Brown 12-yards from net. Brown elevated and flicked the ball over Sacred Heart netminder Matthew Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England/Sandon) for a 2-0 lead.

Sacred Heart came back in the second half, cutting the lead in half at 65:04 as senior Tony Allegro (Enfield, CT/Enrico Fermi) and freshman Jason Tessitore (Ansonia, CT/Amity) played a give-and-go that ended with Tessitore putting the ball nearside past RMU's freshman keeper Matt Felice for his team leading fourth goal of the season. Senior Gustavo Netto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/LaGuardia C.C) knotted the game seven minutes later by burying his own rebound from just outside the six-yard box.

Sacred Heart outshot Robert Morris 19-13 in the second half, but Felice came up with five of his six saves in the second stanza to earn his fourth win of the season. Jones finished with five saves for Sacred Heart.

The Pioneers are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they visit St. Francis (PA) in NEC action. Game time is 1:00 pm.
