Worcester, MA - The Sacred Heart men's soccer team earned their second straight 1-0 victory as they defeated Holy Cross 1-0 Saturday afternoon. Freshman Norman Baer (Marl, Germany) netted the game winner in the 54th minute with his first collegiate goal with an assist from Lusiano Dadario (East Haven, CT). Alex Fait (Ottawa, Canada) made four saves to record his second cleansheet of 2009 while lowering his goals against average to 0.31.
Sacred Heart (2-1-0) outshot the Crusaders 4-3 in the first half and earned two corner kicks to Holy Cross' one. Crusaders goalie Thomas Booth made two of his three saves as the game went into the half tied at zero.
Holy Cross (1-4-0) attempting six corner kicks in the second half but could not find the back of the net. Baer put the Pioneers on top early in the second half with a volley from just outside the six yard box. The contest became a physical affair as four players earned a yellow card.
All three Pioneer games this season have been decided 1-0 with SHU not conceeding a goal in 180 minutes. Sacred Heart returns to action Wednesday, September 23 at Campus Field as they take on Adelphi. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
