Green Bay, WI - Freshman Jesper Fredriksson (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored two more goals to lead the Pioneers to a 3-1 win over Georgia State in the Nike Soccer Classic Sunday in Green Bay. The pair of tallies gives Fredriksson a team leading six goals on the season.
The Pioneers went up 1-0 in the 22nd minute when Fredriksson beat Panthers goaltender Paulo Gutierrez. He dribbled in close to the net and fired a shot that found the left corner of the net. Georgia State tied the game four minutes later when Martin Zaluk fired a shot from 15 yards out that beat Pioneers goalkeeper Matthew Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England).
Sacred Heart scored two goals in a four minute span to put the game away. Sophomore Luke Gagliardi (North Branford, CT) scored what turned out to be the game winner in the 66th minute when he converted a free kick of the foot of Svetozar Gladic (Novi Sad, Serbia). Gagliardi redirected Gladic's blast with a header into the net for his first tally of the season. Fredriksson tallied his second goal of the day when he one timed a pass from Jason Tessitore (Ansonia, CT) into the back of the goal.
The Pioneers (3-2-1) are back in action Wednesday when they visit UConn. Game time in Storrs is 7:00 pm.
